Strategy
is a description of the manner in which an enterprise intends
to gain competitive advantage. Strategies describe actions aimed
directly at altering the strength of the enterprise relative to
that of its competitors. Strategies should allow the enterprise
to gain a relative advantage through measures its competitors
will find hard to follow and allow the advantage to be extended
even further. Strategy development results from the continuous
application and interaction of three fundamental thinking skills
-- identification of elements and scope, analysis, and synthesis.
The basic elements of a strategy for an enterprise are -- the
market (comprised of customers, competitors and technology embedded
in a milieu of social, political, economic, demographic and scientific
driving forces for change), stakeholders, enterprise capability
and enterprise capacity. The enterprise capability and capacity
are defined by it projects, resources and culture.
At KarpeDium we define
strategy as the road map of an organization, the expression of
how it intends to operate in a dynamic environment providing orientation
for goal setting and decision-making. We believe that Strategic
Planning is not only critical to the success of any organization
but also provides a road-map of where it wants to go and the route
it will take to get there. Success in this effort comes when strategy
is achievable and measurable, and is linked to business plans
and budgets.
With KarpeDium, formal strategic planning
asks and then provides answers to questions of importance in an
orderly way. It creates a scale of priority and urgency. The process
introduces a new set of decision-making forces and tools. We help
management to look at their organization as an integrated whole
rather than planning separately for each component of the business.
This forces the setting of objectives for such things as market
share, profits, etc.
Through the experience, knowledge and intuition
of managers, combined with our framework for systematic collection
and evaluation of data, there is a sharper focus on what lies
ahead for the organization. Our Focus areas:
Strategic
Management
Strategic planning
is a management tool, period. As with any management tool,
it is used for one purpose only: to help an organization do a
better job - to focus its energy, to ensure that members of the
organization are working toward the same goals, to assess and
adjust the organization's direction in response to a changing
environment. In short, strategic planning is a disciplined effort
to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide
what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it, with
a focus on the future. In What Direction Are You Headed?
If you're not quite sure where your business is headed these days-or

KarpeDium will assist in understanding
who you are and where you stand in the competitive marketplace
today... Determining where you want to go, how you'll get there,
and how you'll know you've arrived...
Strategy is about position. Your company's long-term
success depends on how it is positioned in the market. If your strategy
is unsound (or nonexistent), your company will flounder while others
move confidently forward.
Strategy is about planning and execution. Unrealized plans
create a culture of defeat. Without action, your intentions simply
wither and decay. To achieve competitive success, you need both
thought and action, both plan and execution.
Perhaps the biggest single benefit of strategic planning is improved
financial performance. Studies indicate that organizations which
undertake strategic planning enjoy significant improvements in sales,
profitability and productivity when compared to organizations that
do not.
Strategic planning can also improve manager motivation and morale.
Properly done, it can instill a sense of satisfaction by giving
managers a role in the creation of their own destiny. Managers will
know what is expected of them, and when it is achieved, it can bring
a sense of accomplishment.
